Compliance Professional

Education and Certification

  • Degree in health care related field or equivalent experience
  • Preferred (though not required):
    • Certified in Health Care Compliance (CHC)
    • Certified as a professional coder with CCS-P or CPC credential
    • Certified as RHIT, CCS, CHRC
    • Certified as an ICD 10 and/or professional coding instructor
  • Current membership in professional association, i.e. AAPC, AHIMA, HCCA


  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a compliance professional
  • Direct experience in preparing, organizing and delivering compliance work plans, audit plans, and for-cause investigational plans
  • Previous consulting experience is preferred
  • Experience working in a hospital or academic medical center is important
  • Prior experience working in a leadership role with other compliance professionals staff is preferred
  • Familiarity with current and emerging compliance issues and challenges
  • A depth of experience with the following would be considered an asset to one’s candidacy for this position:
    • Preparing and reporting audit results
    • Provider-based entity compliance
    • Hospital contract management
    • Delivering training.
    • Medicare enrollment activities
    • Patient satisfaction assessment
    • Record retention
    • Community benefit tracking and reporting
    • Compliance risk assessment
    • 340 B drug compliance
    • Bed capacity and reporting
    • Patient satisfaction assessment
    • Joint Commission surveys
    • Privacy risk assessment
    • Physician practice compliance
    • Developing policies and procedures
    • Research / IRB compliance
    • Experience with a recognized electronic medical record system
